about

BEFORE THE PANTS VOLUME 1: Music For the Purple Ants.
25th Anniversary Edition

In the spring of 1991 I wrote my first complete song that I thought was legitimately "good" (by teenage definitions).

For Christmas 1992 I received a 4-track cassette recorder and a remarkably versatile Radio Shack PZM microphone.

By April of 1993, I had made this.

I am "reissuing" this now in hopes that 1) there are still people out there who remember this cassette (and the ones that followed it) in a relatively fond manner, and might like to obtain a digital copy and 2) there are people I have met since who like what I do enough that they would feel compelled to investigate my "juvenilia" as it were.

Contains 4 bonus tracks.
"I Dig You (Live 1993)" was recorded at Kaiser's Grateful Bean at one of my first real "gigs" ever.
"Nothing To Do (Hello Cleveland Version)" was recorded in the Bridge Room at the College of Santa Fe some time in 1994, I believe.
"A Guy Named Matt (My Mushroom House Has Another & She Looks Just Like Your Drum Machine)" was recorded some time in 1998 or 1999 as a demo for the nascent Dr. Pants so we could play it live.
"Zeke the Worm (Brian the Chicken Live Version)" was recorded at the very first Dr. Pants show (that wasn't an open mic performance) at Galileo in the fall of 1999.
