jheatnok Great job and “HIGH FIVE” with this album and latest creation David, er, Dr. Pants. “To Be Sugar” deserves it’s place in a 80’s inspired movie/streaming platform series (Duffer Brothers come to mind) “Old Sucka At Your Service” is my new calling card and “Going to the Farm” made me nostalgic for REM’s Monster. Also, “Maisie, Please don’t lie” which made me think….did you just resurrect Dad rock??? Best, Jarrod H

Ian Roegels I really like this record a lot! No need for high end studios on this…. The songwriting, talent, and creativity shine through. Favorite track: Visigoth Summer.

about

Everything old is new again? This album was created in a similar manner to the albums I used to make before I adopted the Dr. Pants name. On my own, no contributions from others, DIY and scrappy. Songs got made up on the fly. Sound quality might not be top notch but the energy and vibe were what was most important. The main difference was that I was no longer using a 4-track cassette recorder and a Radio Shack PZM microphone, but a laptop and a nicer AKG microphone. And, of course, I had access to the sequencing and synth module capabilities of modern software, which made electronic textures possible that I didn’t have access to in the 90s.

If you wanted The Trip part 2, this ain’t it, folks. It is unlikely I will make a more “proper” rock record like that again unless someone gives me the money to do so. But I don’t only enjoy listening to big sounding rock records and “proper” sounding acoustic records; I enjoy lo-fi, scratchy ones, too, as well as noisy industrial records, electronic and hip-hop records. These things are all parts of what I have always believed Dr. Pants is (or could be). I like the idea of an album that feels more like an eclectic playlist. And there’s even more to it than that. Additional changes, or perhaps more “highly evolved” states of music making are coming…Hope you’ll stick around…
